David Bearman Live from Connecticut

The course: TPC River Highlands — Pete Dye design, 6,800 yards

The style: Positional off the tee, not about distance. Small greens, tree-lined. Win at -19 or -20.

Bearman: "You just gotta know where to miss. You can't just bomb it over the trees and deal with it later like at a 7,700-yard course. These guys know how to get their game around a golf course."

❌ Wyndham Clark (33/1) — NOT BETTING

Bearman: "It's a massive letdown spot. You don't see a lot of players doing the back-to-back. He just burned everything he got to win the US Open. It's also not a course that fits his game."

✅ Xander Schauffele (15/1) — ON THE CARD

The case:

• Won this event in 2022
• 4 straight top 20s here
• 13th off the tee, 15th total driving, 29th approach, 13th T2G

Bearman: "He's on my card almost every single week. Can't go wrong with this guy. Always a top 10, top 20 guy. Positional off the tee and second shot course — he checks all those boxes."

✅ Justin Thomas (25/1) — ON THE CARD

The case:

• Fully back from offseason back surgery
• 6 consecutive top 25 finishes
• 4th at PGA Championship (clubhouse leader before Aaron Rai went bananas)
• 17th at US Open last week
• Last 3 years at Travelers: 9th, 5th, 9th
• Win at Sawgrass, win at Harbortown (Pete Dye courses)
• Gained strokes overall in 6 straight events (2+ in last 5)

Bearman: "Quietly putting together some really good rounds. This is the type of event and course where he flies under the radar, comes out and wins it."

Scott: "Justin Thomas top 10 at plus 190 — I think that might be the way I go."

✅ Cameron Young (22/1) — ON THE CARD

The case:

• Was hottest name on tour a month ago (won Players, won Doral, led Masters late)
• Cooled off (last 3 outside top 25)
• BUT: Gained approach and off tee in 10 straight events
• Issue is the putter (was his issue before, is again)
• Shot 59 on this course in 2024 (finished 9th)

Bearman: "If his putter's hot, this guy can go out there and shoot a 59 or a 60, which is doable on this course."

✅ Scottie Scheffler — TOP 5 BET

The case:

• 7 top 4 finishes this year (including wins, including US Open)
• Leads tour in strokes gained total, T2G, GIR
• Won here a couple years ago

Bearman: "He's in a slump, but he leads the tour in almost every statistical category. There's going to be a week where he puts it all together and wins by 8 shots. This is the type of course where he can do that."

On Boozer: "I was disappointed he was the favorite because I wanted to bet him. I thought he was the best player in the country and the best player in the draft."

On Peterson: "I want nothing to do with Darryn Peterson until I can be told that he's actually going to play and not be a pain in the you know what."

On Acuff Jr. (+450): "Being an SEC guy, having to watch him at Arkansas last year, the guy impressed me. Absolute wonderful shooter. If they do something with that Sacramento team, I think this guy can score 25-30 a game and win this award."

On Mikel Brown Jr. (+950): "In Brooklyn, at least will get some attention if they're still paying attention to that other team in New York."
