### Week 3 · College football — what the books did from Sunday to Tuesday

Here's something that happens every Sunday that most bettors never think about. While everyone is busy betting NFL, college lines are being formed.

Before last weekend kicked off, the books already had numbers up on some of this weekend's games. Those are look-ahead lines — an educated guess, made before anyone watched these teams play. Then Saturday happens. And sometime Sunday, quietly, the books take those guesses down and put new ones up.

By the time you sit down Monday with a coffee and start shopping, that's over. You're not watching the market move. You're looking at where it landed.

So every Tuesday I'll show you three numbers on the games that matter: **what the book guessed last week, what it reopened at, and where it sits now.** The first gap is the bookmaker changing his own mind. The second is bettors changing theirs. Those are completely different things, and almost nobody separates them.

> **This week the market barely argued.** Across every Week 3 game with both a look-ahead and a fresh opener, the books moved their own lines a combined **125.5 points** when they reopened Sunday. Everything the market has done since — all the money, all the sharps, all of it — comes to **15.5 points.** On most of these games, today's number is the number the book handed you.

Here's where they did the most work.

---

## The Weekend Re-Rate

### Arkansas vs. Georgia — FanDuel

| Look-ahead (held since Aug 14) | Reopened | Now |
| ------------------------------ | --------- | ----- |
| Arkansas +16.5 | **+24.5** | +25.5 |

Arkansas went to Utah and got run off the field, 43-10\. FanDuel had this at sixteen and a half and had it there since the middle of August — a full month, untouched. It came back Sunday at twenty-four and a half.

Eight points, gone before the market opened its mouth. The book watched the Utah game and decided it had Arkansas wrong by more than a touchdown. Bettors have agreed and pushed it another point. I could see it continuing to climb.

---

### Syracuse at Pittsburgh — DraftKings

| Look-ahead (Sep 9) | Reopened | Now |
| ------------------ | -------- | ---- |
| Total 59.5 | **51.5** | 51.5 |

My favorite one on the board, and it has nothing to do with who I like.

DraftKings took **eight points** off this total over the weekend and hasn't touched it since. Meanwhile the spread — same game, same book, twenty-odd price checks — has been Pittsburgh −10.5 every single time I've looked. Never moved. Not once.

Sit with what that means. The book watched both teams play and came away convinced it had badly misjudged *how this game gets played*, and equally convinced it had nailed *who wins it*. That's a specific thing to believe, and the book is telling you plainly — if you're reading the right number.

---

### North Carolina at Clemson — DraftKings

| Look-ahead (Sep 9) | Reopened | Now |
| ------------------ | -------- | ---- |
| Clemson −9.5 | **−3.0** | −3.5 |

Clemson was a nine-and-a-half-point favorite. It reopened at three.

That's six and a half points, and it's six and a half points *through seven and all the way down onto three* — the two numbers that decide more games than anything else on the board. Clemson needed four quarters to put away Georgia Southern 22-7, and the book responded by cutting the number nearly in half. It had already trimmed a point by Friday night; the rest came Saturday.

The total never moved at all — 44.5 at the look-ahead, 44.5 now. So the book completely re-rated one team and didn't budge on what it expects them to score. Worth sitting with.

---

### Houston at Texas Tech — FanDuel

| Look-ahead (Sep 11) | Reopened | Now |
| ------------------- | -------- | ---- |
| Texas Tech −13.5 | **−8.5** | −7.5 |

Texas Tech had been laying nearly two touchdowns here for weeks. FanDuel had it at thirteen and a half on September 11, and DraftKings had the same number back on August 6 and sat within half a point of it for five straight weeks.

The weekend took five points off. The market has taken another one since — the biggest post-reopen move on the board this week, and one of the few games where bettors didn't simply accept the book's new number and go home. Houston beat Southern 77-6, for whatever a score like that is worth.

**One honest note:** this game appears twice in the price feed because kickoff moved from Sunday to Saturday. That August history sits under the original listing; every number above is from the live one.

## One That Didn't Wait For The Weekend

### LSU at Ole Miss — DraftKings

| Held Aug 6 – Sep 5 | After Clemson | Now |
| ------------------ | ------------- | ---- |
| Ole Miss −1.5 | **+2.5** | +3.0 |

This one's in its own section because it breaks the pattern, and how it breaks it is the interesting part.

DraftKings hung Ole Miss −1.5 on August 6 and then did nothing with it for a month. Didn't move it through Week 0\. Didn't move it through Week 1\. The last time the book posted a number was six o'clock on the evening of September 5 — ninety minutes before LSU kicked off against Clemson — and it was still Ole Miss −1.5.

Then the book went dark on it for four days. When it came back on the 9th, LSU was the favorite. By the 10th it was Ole Miss +2.5\. FanDuel followed on the 11th. All of that happened *before* last weekend's games were ever played.

So what did the big Week 2 Saturday do to this line? Half a point. LSU beat Louisiana Tech 45-14, Ole Miss beat Charlotte 41-9, and the number went from +2.5 to +3 and has drifted there since.

The lesson: the weekend re-rate is usually where the action is, but not always. Sometimes a line gets its news early, and by the time everyone's staring at Sunday's reopen, the move already happened two weeks ago. I flagged this game in last week's card as the thing sitting on LSU's horizon — Kiffin going back to the program where he made his name. The market had already priced it.

## And Then There's This

### Michigan State at Notre Dame — FanDuel

| Look-ahead (Sep 11) | Reopened | Now |
| ------------------- | --------- | ----- |
| Notre Dame −29.5 | **−29.5** | −29.5 |

Fourteen price checks. A full Saturday of college football in between. Same number every time.

I find these as interesting as the eight-point moves. A whole weekend went by, both teams played, and the book came back and said: nope, we had it right, nothing we saw changes anything. DraftKings is sitting on the identical figure. FanDuel hasn't touched its total either — 52.5 since the 11th, while DraftKings shaved a single point off its own.

When a number holds through a week like that, somebody already did the work on it.

## The Rest Of The Board

Everything else that's moved a point and a half or more since it opened. No commentary, just where the numbers went.

**Reading the move column:** for spreads, **+** means the line moved toward the underdog and **−** means it moved toward the favorite. For totals, **+** is up and **−** is down.

## How I Measure This

Every number here is **one book against itself** — its own look-ahead, its own opener, its own price today. Averaging books that started in different places invents movement that never happened, so I don't do it. Where a game leans on one book, I name the book.

I also throw out anything that's just one book posting a number and correcting itself overnight with nothing else confirming it. That's not a market moving, that's a guy fixing a typo. Fifteen of those came out this week.

Saturday is when I tell you what I think of these numbers. Tuesday is just the tape.

*Lines are US-book prices captured Tuesday morning and they'll keep moving. Shop your number.*
