Team USA -0.5 1st Period over Germany
After a terrible first period yesterday vs Denmark, it will be incumbent upon the US team to start fast vs Germany today. The first period has always been a tone setter for the US as yesterday was the first time they trailed after the opening period in the Olympics with NHL players since the 2010 tournament.
We also have to acknowledge the goal of this game. Win and win safe. With a victory, the US will clinch the 2nd seed in the Quarterfinals, setting up what we all want, a collision course with Canada in the Gold Medal game. The reason why I say clinch the 2nd seed, is because of Canada's dominating win over France, increasing their goal differential to a place the US likely won't be able to reach, nor should they try. I can see a situation where the US gets out to an early lead, establishes control, and cruises to a win. Not trying too much, going deeper into their line rotations and staying healthy. 4-1, 3-0 is a reasonable outcome here. Expect the message to be start early, start fast, and play with the lead.
