Detroit Pistons +12 vs OKC
The market is posting larger and larger lines trying to account for the massive amount of tanking replete in the NBA right now.
The historic amount of tanking is no coincidence. Commissioner Adam Silver stood before the Board of Governors this week and said the quiet part loud: “We are going to fix it. Full stop.” A formal vote is expected at the May meeting, with every proposal on the table set to flatten lottery odds dramatically. The 2026 draft class is projected to be historically deep, and this is the last window to tank under the current rules. The race to the bottom is at full sprint.
The result is a league bifurcated at an extreme level. Over the last 30 days, seven teams are posting net ratings above +10 while eight teams are sitting at -10 or worse — marks that in a normal season would represent the best and worst teams in the league, now appearing simultaneously across nearly half the league. Lines are getting distorted by the gravitational pull of so many teams actively losing.
But this isn’t one of those games.
Yes, Cade Cunningham is out. Isaiah Stewart is out. Jalen Duren, Tobias Harris, and Duncan Robinson are all doubtful. Ausar Thompson is questionable, though expected to play after shoot-around. The injury report is real, and a full-strength Thunder team is already around four points better than a full-strength Detroit team — this roster situation widens that gap further. The market is over correxting, inflating a number that was already generous. The Pistons do not suddenly become a tanking like team despite their injuries. The players are still playing for something, and especially the back ups, want to earn trust from the coaching staff for the upcoming playoff run. We have seen that already with the Pistons performance without Cunningham.
The system is as intact as ever; Detroit is 5-1 with a +14.6 net rating since Cade went down. These are two teams both competing, And I think the Pistons - lineup adjustments and anll enter this match up as the more motivated team and will make this a close game.
