Shop them — this year it matters more than usual.* Futures betting is where lazy money goes to die. You like a team, you take whatever number is on your screen, and you feel good for four months. We're doing it differently: five teams, from the favorite down to a 150-1 shot — the number, the book that has it, and the honest case for each. **The line-shopping section at the bottom is worth more than any single opinion above it. Read it.** --- ## Oregon +800 **BetMGM · Caesars · BetRivers** Might be the best team in the country on paper. The season ended 56-22 against 16-0 Indiana — but before that, Oregon shut out Texas Tech 23-0 in the Orange Bowl. You don't blank a No. 4 seed by accident. **The case:** 66% returning production (12th nationally). Dante Moore turned down roughly $50M in guaranteed money to run it back after a 3,565-yard, 30-TD season. Both edge rushers — Matayo Uiagalelei (10.5 sacks, led the Big Ten) and Teitum Tuioti (16.5 TFL) — skipped the draft. SP+ has them No. 2 overall with the No. 1 offense. And Dylan Raiola from the Nebraska portal is the best insurance policy in America behind Moore. **The risk:** Seven players drafted, both coordinators gone, and three of five OL starters will be first-timers. The line getting overwhelmed is how each of the last two seasons ended. **The verdict:** +800 is 11.1% implied on a team that's fairly a 10–11% title team. Close to fair — that's fine for an anchor bet. Just don't take +750\. Same team, worse math. --- ## Alabama +2500 **DraftKings · FanDuel** The market remembers two blowouts — 28-7 to Georgia, 38-3 to Indiana in the Rose Bowl. It's forgetting what happened in between: a two-loss No. 9 seed went to Oklahoma and won a playoff game 34-24\. In the new format, you don't have to be perfect. You have to get in and get hot. **The case:** The defense returns everything. SP+ rates it fourth nationally, four starters back in the secondary, Bray Hubbard a preseason first-team All-American, and Kane Wommack back for year three. The offense lost both co-coordinators; the defense lost nobody. That asymmetry is the whole story. **The math:** At +2500 you break even if Alabama wins it all 3.85% of the time. A 5-to-9 seed wins the title roughly 9–10% of the time once it's in — so the bet wins if Alabama makes the field more than about 40% of the time. The market has them at 39%. That's the entire wager, and it's the ticket on this sheet you'd most want to own in December. **The risk:** 41% returning production (96th on offense), and no named starting QB as of August — Austin Mack vs. Keelon Russell. **The verdict:** +2500 is the best value on the sheet. BetMGM's +1500 isn't a bet at all — that price needs Alabama in the playoff two-thirds of the time. **Do not take it.** --- ## Penn State +8000 **FanDuel** This one is purely number and schedule. The 7-6 disaster came with five one-score losses in a six-game skid — Oregon by six in 2OT, Northwestern by one, Iowa by one, Indiana by three. That's not a bad team. That's a team that lost every coin flip for two months. **The case:** Matt Campbell arrives from Iowa State with his OC, his QB coach, and his quarterback. Rocco Becht started 39 straight games and brings 26 career wins — most of any returning QB in the country — running the same offense for the same coaches. And the schedule is the softest in the Big Ten: they miss Ohio State, Oregon, Indiana, and Michigan, with seven home games. SP+ projects 6.2 conference wins; 10-2 is very doable and likely gets them into the CFP. **The verdict:** The 85-1 is gone — FanDuel's 80-1 is the longest on the board, and BetMGM is all the way down at 50-1\. At +8000 it's roughly fair; at +6500 or +5000 the value evaporates entirely. This is a bet on a specific number at a specific book. --- ## BYU +10000 **FanDuel · BetRivers** BYU lost two games last year, both to Texas Tech, by a combined 63-14\. Everybody else, they handled. Now the structural fact that makes the ticket: **Texas Tech is not on BYU's 2026 schedule.** The only team that beat them can only show up once — in the Big 12 Championship on December 4, where losing still means you had a season. **The case:** Bear Bachmeier is back after starting all 14 games as a true freshman (3,033 passing yards, 527 rushing, Big 12 Offensive Freshman of the Year). 64% returning production, 18th nationally. Notre Dame comes to Provo October 17 — win that and this ticket is live early. FPI is more bullish than the market: favored in 11 of 12, 25.7% to make the playoff vs. a market-implied \~21%. The only play of the five where a public model likes the team more than the price does. **The verdict:** +10000 is break-even to slightly ahead — a win for a longshot. The +8000 at BetMGM and Caesars is a 25% worse payout on identical risk. Pass. --- ## SMU +15000 **BetMGM** Full transparency: this is the thinnest case of the five. Fair value runs closer to 170-1 than 150-1 — even at the best price you're giving up a little theoretical edge. It makes the card on the team, the quarterback, and the spot. **The case:** Kevin Jennings is back healthy as a fifth-year senior after 3,641 yards (7th in FBS) and 26 TDs. 62% returning production, and the coaches have SMU 20th, second in the ACC behind Miami. **The spot:** Monday, September 7 at Florida State, 7:30 ET — the only game in the country in that window, and SMU is a 1.5-point road favorite. An isolated national stage in Week 1\. My plan: wait and watch that game before firing. If they handle Tallahassee on a Monday night, the whole country finds out at once. **The verdict:** If you play it, play it at BetMGM's 150-1 — the longest price on the board by 20%. DraftKings and Caesars at 100-1 are the same ticket for a third less. --- ## The Part That Actually Makes You Money: Shop These Numbers 2026 CFB Title Futures Best Board vs. Worst Board Oregon +800 **Best:** +800 — BetMGM, Caesars, BetRivers **Worst:** +750 — DraftKings, FanDuel **Cost of lazy:** $50 per $100 Alabama +2500 **Best:** +2500 — DraftKings, FanDuel **Worst:** +1500 — BetMGM **Cost of lazy:** $1,000 per $100 Penn State +8000 **Best:** +8000 — FanDuel **Worst:** +5000 — BetMGM **Cost of lazy:** $3,000 per $100 BYU +10000 **Best:** +10000 — FanDuel, BetRivers **Worst:** +8000 — BetMGM, Caesars **Cost of lazy:** $2,000 per $100 SMU +15000 **Best:** +15000 — BetMGM **Worst:** +10000 — DraftKings, Caesars **Cost of lazy:** $5,000 per $100 "Cost of lazy" = payout difference per $100 stake between the best and worst available number. Odds as of Aug 10, 2026\. Read the Alabama card again. $100 pays $1,500 at BetMGM and $2,500 at DraftKings on the exact same outcome. That's a thousand dollars for the convenience of not opening a second app. And there's no "best book" here. BetMGM is the shortest price in the market on Alabama and Penn State — and the longest anywhere on SMU. That's not a soft book or a sharp book; that's a book with opinions. Shop team by team. **The simple version:** FanDuel and BetMGM together capture the longest mainstream number on all five. Oregon and SMU at BetMGM; Alabama, Penn State, and BYU at FanDuel. Two accounts, best price, every time. Two reminders: futures limits are real — a 150-1 ticket may max out below what you want, so check first. And these numbers move; Oregon has shortened from +850 in January to +750 at some books today. Everything above is dated August 10\. Verify before you fire. Good luck.
